- During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Italian immigrants settled along California's central coast. They brought strong backs, stringed instruments and a love of music and dance. Soon a thriving tradition of ballo liscio (smooth dance) flourished, embracing popular Italian and Latin tunes. This collection reflects that repertoire, learned primarily from the playing of Riccardo Tunzi (1899-1987). Many thanks to our friends Irene and Janet for their inspired playing, and our trusty engineer Wally McClellan.
